NTL It's So Warm in the D
Featuring new work from 16 artists hailing from every corner of the country, “It’s So Warm In The D” brings the No Talent Losers (NTL) crew to Detroit for their first group exhibition, opening June 9th at KO Studio Gallery in Hamtramck, Michigan.
Showcasing a wide variety of new paintings from Boy Kong, Brian Butler, Caratoes, Defer, E.F. Angel, Jeff Gress, Jose Mertz, Hoxxoh, Hueman, Kamea Hadar, Kaplan Bunce, Lauren YS, Tatiana Suarez, Yoskay Yamamoto, Woes and Zach Tutor, the exhibition features over a dozen new works all created in different mediums on wood panels made by NTL’s Craig Hejka.
Over the past 5 years Hejka has designed and created hundreds of panels for exhibiting artists around the world, with showcasing artists presenting their new work on his panels at Detroit’s Inner State Gallery, Los Angeles’ Thinkspace, Hawaii’s POW! WOW!, San Francisco’s Spoke Art and dozens more.
“I’ve been painting on Craig’s panels for a couple years now and they’re so beautifully crafted. We’ve had NTL productions in both Miami & Hawaii, so when Craig approached me about bringing it to Detroit, we jumped on it. We had talked about doing a group show for a long time, and Craig’s panels are a great contribution to the show to really help unify all of the works,” Tatiana Suarez said from her studio in Miami.
NTL was founded in 2014 after Suarez and Hadar took a photo in front of a tag that read ‘No Talent Losers’, scribbled by an elderly Miamian who was notorious in the Wynwood area for calling out vandals. That photo and catchphrase became an inside joke between friends poking fun at the politics, fame-game, and economics of the art world today. NTL has since grown into an evolving artist collective scattered around the globe comprised of humble, like-minded artists with a wide range of styles.
“Typically to see this variety and caliber of artists all in one place you’ll have to travel to a high end art fair, so with this show I wanted to bring that same feeling to Detroit and showcase my friend’s work from around the world in the city that I love,” Hejka said from his Detroit studio space.
